Agape

When love the Father gave to us,
And through Son’s side the spear was thrust,
It did not then depend on us,
His will was why He died.

As foll’wers of the sacred cross,
And sharers in the worthy cost,
We dare not count our lives as lost,
If in Him we abide.

For then give we the gift of love,
With ne’er a string attached above,
No sacrifice too great my dove,
All this agape cried.

And now go forth into the day,
In worship, trial, work, or play,
For this I hear the Savior say,
The Spirit be your guide.

“In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.” ~1 John 4:10-14

“We love because he first loved us.” ~1 John 4:19
